    A Thanet town at the seaside, north-east of Canterbury by (24.1 km) 15 miles, which includes Garlinge, Cliftonville, Westbrook, and Palm Bay is Margate, Kent, South East England. Though the spelling continued to vary into modern times, Margate in 1264 as "Meregate" was recorded and in 1299 as "Margate".
